Apple today (21 March 2017) has announced a new red colour addition to the current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus existing colours. This is also the first time that the iPhone family had a PRODUCT(RED)™. Apple had launched other products in PRODUCT(RED)™ such as the iPod nano and the iPod touch before but never in the iPhone family.

As the Apple Online Store when into maintenance from 1500hrs today (21 March 2017), lots of speculation has been made that Apple will be adding new products to the pipeline. It has also been rumoured since start of the year that Apple will be adding a red colour edition for the iPhone 7. However, most would expect Apple to hold a typical Special Event rather than a Press Release of these new additions to the iPhone 7 product but it isn’t Apple’s first doing so too.

According to Apple on (PRODUCT)RED:

For 10 years, our partnership with (RED) has supported HIV/AIDS programmes that provide counselling, testing and medicine that prevents the transmission of HIV from a mother to her unborn child. So far, we’ve raised over US$130 million through the sale of our (RED) products. Now we’re introducing iPhone 7 (PRODUCT)REDSpecial Edition. Every purchase brings us a step closer to an AIDS‑free generation.

The Apple logo on the back would likely be the same as the Silver models and having the Touch ID ring to be silver as well. We can only confirm when the customers began receiving the Red coloured iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices.

Apple now makes 6 different colours for the iPhone 7: PRODUCT(RED)™, Jet Black, Black, Rose Gold, Gold and Silver. Will some of these colours to continue on to the next generation of iPhone devices or some colours would get discontinued? It is interesting if Apple can release the numbers of each colour being sold, finding out which are the more popular colours and the least.

The PRODUCT(RED)™ iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus is only available in 128GB and 256GB storages, similar to the Jet Black colour. Apple will begin taking orders this Friday, 24 March at 2301hrs (11:01PM). This is probably due to the different timezones as Apple would start the order at 0801 hrs PDT together with the people in the US.
