Launched back in September 2017, the Apple Watch Series 3 featured a faster processor than the previous version, the Apple Watch Series 2, with the S3 chip which is said to be 70% faster and also came with a Cellular function that was the highlight of Series 3.
However, Singapore only had the GPS function and without cellular. The probable cause is that the carriers do not have support for eSIM for the Apple Watch, which is what powers the cellular connectivity instead of a regular (nano) SIM card.
With all electronic products such as the iPhone, and other devices need to be certified in Singapore before it goes on sale, a search on IMDA Equipment Search reveals that the cellular version of the Apple Watch Series 3 has been certified, with the product or model names, A1889, and A1891, and previously not seen in the list until recently.
A1889 and A1891 are also the same model names or numbers used in Apple’s documents to know if a particular cellular model of the Apple Watch, bought in that certain country would have support for which respective carriers.
However, it is still better to hold off the purchase of the cellular versions in other countries for now as they might be ‘carrier locked’ to the country of purchase’ carriers until the cellular versions for Singapore are officially available, though Series 3 with Cellular to be sold in Singapore shares the same model names or numbers.
No pricing was mentioned thus the best way is the official statement by Apple or to get a comparison of the Cellular versions with other countries, such as Australia.
Pricing of the Apple Watch Series 3 Cellular versions in Australia:
- Aluminium Case (38mm): A$559 (≈S$583.06)
- Aluminium Case (42mm): A$599 (≈S$625.21)
-
Stainless Steel Case with Sports Band (38mm): A$849 (≈S$880.92)
- Stainless Steel Case with Sports Band (42mm): A$919 (≈S$959.21)
