The Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) is finally here today (9 Feb) in Singapore (only via Singtel), together with Hong Kong, joining the US, UK, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, and Switzerland.
The Apple Watch Series 3 with Cellular has now been confirmed that it will be available and go on sale in Singapore, following the certification of the Cellular models on the IMDA’s website earlier this month.
The Apple Watch Series 3 with Cellular will begin its pre-order on 2 February 2018, a week from now, and will be available from 9 February through the Apple Online Store and the physical stores like Apple Orchard Road.
On the cellular versions, Apple Watch users can make and receive phone calls and use apps which will require an internet connection, without the need for your iPhone to be nearby. Sending and receiving of SMSes will not be available, however, according to Singtel’s FAQ,
Launched back in September 2017, the Apple Watch Series 3 featured a faster processor than the previous version, the Apple Watch Series 2, with the S3 chip which is said to be 70% faster and also came with a Cellular function that was the highlight of Series 3.
However, Singapore only had the GPS function and without cellular. The probable cause is that the carriers do not have support for eSIM for the Apple Watch, which is what powers the cellular connectivity instead of a regular (nano) SIM card.
With all electronic products such as the iPhone, and other devices need to be certified in Singapore before it goes on sale, a search on IMDA Equipment Search reveals that the cellular version of the Apple Watch Series 3 has been certified, with the product or model names, A1889, and A1891, and previously not seen in the list until recently.
